The Man Behind the Curtain

If you have not watched the episode be fore-warned that this contains major spoilers (I'm a spoiler-nut and even I would not have wanted to be clued before watching...)

What an amazing episode. I do believe it may be my favorite of the season. So many old pieces were put together and so much character development for Ben and the Others.

  • The Others/Dharma/The Hostiles - Well I was only a little correct on my guess about the Island. I knew there were two sets of "others" but what I didn't know was that the Dharma Initiative people had been all killed off by the natives (The Hostiles). One of the most interesting things about The Hostiles to me is their lack of aging...Ben grew up, but Richard...never aged. Seems odd. Or Island-y. Perhaps the Island is our very own fountain of youth...only catch...no children can be created and survive...that is the only way to die (childbirth) leaving them with a community of all men. No wonder it's so dirty there...no new women =P

  • Jacob - Everyone saw him sitting in the chair right? Okay, good. There is much debate about who was in the chair...some think it was Locke from another timeline (if you buy into the timeline theory, this is pretty interesting) and some think it's Alvar Hanso himself (see picture of AH at http://www.thehansofoundation.org/. I could totally buy into the "Jacob doesn't like technology" if it was Alvar...I mean, technology was his ruination...Do we think Ben and Co. are keeping Jacob captive in that little hut? What was up with all those glass jars of weird liquids? The dog painting? Too shaggy to be Vincent right? What about the black/grey powder that surrounded Jacob's hut...was that gunpowder or ashes? Locke obviously figured out what it was...ashes would be pretty creepy (the ashes of the Dharma Initative workers who were sacrificed to the Island because of Alvar...c.r.e.e.p.y.) Maybe it was some sort of protection for Jacob? Who knows. Very strange. I wonder if we'll see more of him this season... I have changed my mind...not Alvar...but Magnus Hanso, the captain of the Black Rock. That could work. There are also theories out there about Jacob being the Spirit of the Island (Smokey) and Ben has only captured his "body" but his Spirit still roams around the Island.

  • Ben - Talk about your screwed up little kid! Daddy issues abound! Now this kid has essentially killed both of his parents...I wonder what ever happened to that Annie girl. Did she die with the other Dharma people? Did she die while giving birth to a child of Ben's giving him a personal vendetta against this whole "pregnant women don't live" Island problem? Does Ben *actually* see and hear Jacob? Does Jacob communicate telepathically? That would explain Ben's freaking out over Locke *actually* hearing Jacob's cry for help.

  • Locke - Is Locke really dead? I was caught completely off-guard when Ben shot him. I gasped, covered my face...and caused my husband to giggle. I had already gasped once at the sight of the mass grave (that apparently had never been covered...were they just planning on keeping it "usefull" in case someone else died?) I had my list of "5" that I thought would be killed by the end of the season and Locke was definitely not on the list. (I saw five because there had been rumors that five more people would die after Niki and Paulo...)

  • Kate - Anyone else want to kick her in the face? I sure did. Stupid...girl...acting like a ... stupid girl. She's now on my "Characters I Hope Die" list.

  • Jack - I am now a convert to the "Who the heck does he think he is? Jack is annoying and needs to die" Club. Sayid needs to start running the show. That's all there is to say about that.

Until next week!

(As always if I come up with anything else (since this blog is written before I've really read anything from my favorite bloggers this morning) it will be in a different color.)

The Brig

I can't decide if I liked this episode or if it wasn't enough for me. Here are some of my thoughts from this week's episode (as always if I think of others after I post I will re-post new comments in another color).

Locke and Sawyer - we all knew that Anthony Cooper was the real "Sawyer". This was not a surprise to anyone who puts thought into the show as they watch it...bloggers have been saying this for the past few seasons...nice to have some confirmation, but other than that, very predictable. The only real question now for me concerns Sawyer's (James Ford's) fate on the island. In the past it has seemed that once a character confronted his fears/ills/issue they died. Is Sawyer next? Now that he has killed the man he traveled to Sydney to kill his revenge is satisfied...although through the last scenes he showed some humanity with his disgust for what he has done (at least that's how I interpret the barfing in the grass...same as when Jack Bauer killed his partner Curtis Manning in Season 6 of 24...). In my mind, Sawyer should be watching his back...but man, I hope he sticks around.

Kate, Kate, KATE! - What in the world woman? Why would she go tell Jack about Naomi when Sayid specifically told her not to? Does she think this will "win him back"? That he'll start paying attention to her now instead of Juliet? If so, what a typical girl (which I can totally say being that I am a girl). I was thoroughly disappointed in Kate and for a moment hoped she was pregnant and would die by the island cure of the pregnant women.

Jack and Juliet - They are definitely working together for something. Jack knows more than he is letting on and I DEFINITELY think he's working for the Others in some capacity.

Danielle - nice set-up writers for a future episode in which Danielle blows something up...subtle.

No flashbacks this episode, well no off-island flashbacks. It was weird for me this time...
