D.O.C.

Thoughts, in no particular order:

  1. Naomi - Why does this chick speak so many languages? (Notice I did not say "how" but "why".) It seems rather strange to me that she would use all these languages when trying to communicate with people who are obviously speaking in English to her (and she understands/speaks English as we saw at the end of the episode). Various people have confirmed that the last thing she says to Mikhail (who we had all guessed was not really dead, and therefore he is not on my list of thoughts) before he runs off into the woods (and being tackled again by Jin) was not, "Thank you..." but rather, "I am not alone" (or some form of that statement). Was that meant to be heard only be Mikhail? Is this chick an "other"? Which troupe of "others" is she from? Seems awful shady to me...which brings me to...

  2. Penny and Desmond - After last week I got to thinking, what was up with Penny and Desmond's first meeting? Fate, or set-up? Was the monk arranging their meeting? To me the answer is, "yes." I am starting to go down the path of believing that what Penny and Desmond had, was not genuine. Perhaps she was set-up by her father and the monk...to use Desmond as a pawn...knowing (through the physic lady, Mrs. Hawkins from the antique store) that he would end up on "their" island (Widmore is already known to be an investor in Dharma, although we do not know to what extent he is involved). Yes, Penny is searching for Desmond, but is it to protect him from her father, or is she working with her father to try and find the "lost" island that holds his investments? This parachuter (Naomi) could have very well be on a scouting mission from Penny and her Russian crew (seen in Season 2's finale). Does Desmond know he is being played (evidence of that could be him letting Mikhail go...all part of the same "clan"...working toward the same goal, or an attempt to screw Widmore over one more time?) Penny and Desmond's relationship is no longer the innocent love story I once believed it to be...and I like it that way...

  3. Sun - Sun is basically my LOST hero. She's the most amazing character, so simple, yet so deep. She can push Kate around like nothing, stand up to Juliet and any man that crosses her path. I totally believe that she would have Jin's mother whacked if she needed to. Her reaction to learning that her baby was Jin's was so amazing...very fitting for her character.

  4. Juliet - She really is the creep we think she is, but I do not think she enjoys being the jerk. With no communication with the outside world (as Ben says) how are they going to get the supplies they need to tweak the "magic potion" they try on pregnant women to keep them alive? If they use the same-old-stuff, Sun will surely die...unless of course only natural inhabitants of the island are "infected" - - did we ever learn if people brought to the island, as opposed to were born on the island, are "infected"? What about the old Clone Theory that suggested the Others were really clones of other people (some even think that Jack has now been cloned...) and that clones since they are not "the original" do not have "a soul" and therefore cannot produce a real human life in the form of a baby...something goes terribly wrong when they try to create life, from their not all natural bodies? Could the crazy sperm count be the problem? Too many latch on to a single egg...causing some terrible mutation?

  5. Multiple Universe Theory - Hurley's last words this episode were predictable, yet telling. Once again theories of purgatory will rise up in LOST blog world. Awesome...way to go writers...way to screw with conspiracy theorist minds. I, myself, prefer the "Multiple Universe Theory" to the purgatory theory. The MUT suggests that the Losties are living in a separate universe than the rest of the world. The rest of the world find plane parts from Oceanic 815 and all passengers are assumed dead. The world goes on...without them. The island however has split from the former universe and created a second, parallel universe that runs along side the "normal" universe. The time is the same, but different things are happening in each universe. The Losties obviously live in this new universe...and there are people still searching for them. I would guess the universe "split" when the plane crashed/Desmond failed to enter the code. At least this would explain away the purgatory theory...which would be pretty lame.

  6. Next Week - Locke is going to ask Sawyer to kill Ben...raise your hand if the man under the potato sack is really Locke's Dad/The Real Sawyer?? Sawyer will finally get his revenge! Or could this be a trap set by the Others to see if Sawyer has "changed" and has turned from his revengeful past? Do we think anyone else will recognize Naomi? Just because the Boy Scouts didn't recognize her doesn't mean someone else on the beach won't...and what about Kate...do we think she'll become pregnant/we'll find out she's pregnant? We already know Sawyer is fertile...and now even more so since being on the island...

Hopefully I didn't forget anything major...if I did I will repost with adds in a different color...

One of Us

Okay, so the one thing that is absolutely driving me crazy with this episode is the way it is screwing with the time line. We learned in Expose that Paulo was reading a newspaper at the airport in Australia dated September 24, 2004. In this episode we see Ben show Juliet the date of September 22, 2004 just after the plane crashed on the island when she gets to see "live feed" of her sister and her child. I realize that the time difference from Australia to Miami includes a cross of the international date line...but wouldn't that make it September 23rd? Am I crazy, or do we think this goes to the time-loop theory of LOST? Paulo and Nikki were not seen in the original crash scenes leading many to believe Desmond has re-set time and that Paulo and Nikki took the place of Bernard and Rose on flight 815. Not sure I buy into that...but it definitely got the gang buzzing...

Okay and the weird "everyone dies when they are pregnant" obviously wasn't the case with Danielle and Alex (unless of course Danielle is another 'plant' by the Others). Danielle survived, although appears pretty insane. Is it only women who get pregnant on the island, or all pregnant women? Juliet mentioned that she believed the problems occurred during conception. So that would mean that Claire (and Danielle) were safe. So was Juliet lying when she said that Claire was showing symptoms (back when Ethan was alive and "taking samples")? In this case, how much more important is it to know who is the father of Sun's baby! If it was her lover from home, she could be "safe" but if it was Jin from some romantic rendezvous on the island...uh oh! Poor Sun, she can't get a break. Does Juliet know that Sun is pregnant? Is Juliet hoping that Kate is now pregnant and really following her around to see if non-native island dwellers will show the same symptoms. I guess this would go to the cause of the, whatever, that makes women unable to have children...a genetic mutation from living on the island (with the ability to affect the Losties), a reaction to "the incident" making all women present at that time "infected". My personal opinion is that "the incident" (the one from the 80's, not the "sky turning purple" one) caused something to happen to the women...especially since it apparently strikes them at conception.

If the island can heal, why would it harm the pregnant women? We can't forget the women's bodies are trying to "heal" themselves. Juliet says their bodies are treating the fetus as an unknown/foreign body and thus rejecting it (like a botched organ replacement). So their bodies think they are "curing" them...Perhaps it's a risk-analyzer or something (think i-Robot when the robot decides to save Will Smith's character instead of the little girl because it had no feelings and he had the "higher chance of survival" and it let the little girl die).

What about Jack. Do we think he is innocent of any knowledge that Juliet is conning the Losties? I am still suspicious about his reaction to the gas from last episode. I wonder if Ben didn't approach him as well and promise to get him off the island with Juliet if he helped her infiltrate the Losties' camp. Jack gets shadier and shadier every episode.

And finally, some random thoughts...

Juliet...the actress is amazing and I really think her character is desperate to get off the island and will screw anyone over that gets in her way. She's not there to make friends with anyone...obviously. A lot of people think "Jacob" is someone we've already seen on the island. I am not so sure. I think it's a different character, if an actual person at all. Lots of Buddhist references throughout the show are leading more and more people to believe that this "Jacob" is not alive (anymore) but is more of a Buddha-esque figure. Their god, if you will. This all making Ben just a leader...perhaps all the previous leaders of the island are named after the biblical Jacob's sons...Benjamin being the youngest (and after Joesph was sold into slavery...the only child left by his "favorite" wife, Rachel)...and when Ben goes...that's when the "world will end" which is where the numbers come in (The LOST Experience from last summer confirmed this with the producers who have said that "for now" this is the answer for what the numbers mean)....the numbers are part of this crazy mathematical equation that predicts the end of the world. Each number stands for a different property (global warming, natural disasters, over population....) and when all the elements are "just right" the world will implode (I'm guess here...possibly explode...but everything seems to implode on LOST...so I'm going with implode). It is said that Dharma was trying to change the numbers....to not let the world end....or perhaps, more likely in my mind, to not let the world end on the island.

I think I am done for now. If I edit anything I will make the text italicized so it is easy to spot!

Left Behind

For my fellow LOST watchers, some observations and ramblings:
  • Juliet was not gassed and handcuffed to Kate by the Others. - We see her putting on a gas mask from outside Kate's window (I found a screen shot to confirm) so in my opinion, she is now a spy...since she has been branded by the Others after shooting/killing Pickett, I can only assume that she now needs to "repay" her debts to the society. Jack being the stubborn man that he is will not realize this, but it looks like next week Sayid is going to go head-to-head with Juliet which will be awesome since I love when Sayid goes all interrogator (so much better to watch than Jack Bauer...)
  • The fence WAS to keep Smokey out (but not originally). - There had been some speculation about this on the boards, but now it seems like we really do know. Now there is some discussion about why Smokey couldn't go over the fence (like our Losties did a few episodes ago) but my guess is that the sound is too harsh for Smokey to get close enough to go over the fence. It also sounds like the fence had another purpose when it was originally installed and keeping Smokey out was just an added perk. Why would they have built that fence? To keep our the Hostiles? Guess the Others told Juliet they would leave the fence off after they left through it (to go wherever they are going now...my guess...that big question mark from Locke's old map was an underground town...or to the lair of the Hostiles perhaps) so she's definitely suspicious.
  • Smokey flashed a white light on Juliet. - Locke said when he looked into the "eye of the island" (Smokey we assume) he saw a bright light. Ecko said he show darkness and images of his fallen past. Looks like "the island" thinks Juliet is still one of the "good guys" (the end justifies the means theory?) Was the white light also meant for Kate? Could the Others perceive Kate as "bad" but the island perceive Kate as "good"? Was Smokey out to kill Kate? Some people think that Smokey was "taking mental images" away from Juliet so that she can now be implanted into the Losties flashbacks. This comes from the group of LOST-bloggers that believe the flashbacks are only part reality and part island induced (basically all the "connections" are not genuine, some are planted...) I'm not 100% buying into that theory...I prefer to think all the "connections" are genuine and a crazy "six degrees of separation" gone wrong or something
  • Let's discuss the gas attack. Anyone notice that Jack took a whole extra day to wake up from being gassed? I didn't notice, but other people said they saw more than one canister of gas in Jack's little house and thought he was just gassed "more"..and some attributed it to the fact that Kate was outside for her "recovery" and that sped up the process. What about Sayid, do we think he was gassed too?

Interesting tidbits/questions:

  • Mouse Trap game is seen again in Kate's room where she is locked up (in a previous Locke flashback we see him explaining Mouse Trap to a kid in a toy store/Target? where he worked saying it was one of his favorite games) and Juliet mentions how much Ben likes mind games...so does Locke.
  • Sayid checked those houses really fast for guns and people...was Sayid awake longer than Jack and just hadn't come to his house yet?
  • Locke looked awful banged up and even had a bandaged wrist when he went to tell Kate goodbye...what the heck did we miss?
  • Sawyer being conned was kinda awkward...remember when his voice was the only thing that would make Aaron stop crying? Guess that only worked for one episode and he's back to being frightened by babies.
  • September 24, 2004 - It was the date on the paper Paulo was reading in the airport when he and Nikki overheard Shannon and Boone fighting before the flight.
