Alive On-Island Group 2: Vincent, Harper Stanhope, Jacob, Smoke Monster, Cindy Chandler, Zach, Emma, Rose, Benhard

I See Dead People Group 2: Tom, Horace, Nadia, Dr. Arzt, Boone, Shannon, Mikhail, Mr. Eck, Bea Klugh
Status Unknown: Jin, Claire, Daniel, Christian, Marvin Candle, Ms. Hawking, Annie
There you have it, my team for 2009 is:
Sawyer
Cindy,
Sayid
Widmore
Ji Yeon-Kwon
Charlie
Mikahil
Jin
Rationale:
Alive On-Island Group 1 - Sawyer. Yes, I realize the likelihood of him killing someone and/or getting injured is quite high, BUT he's also one of my Top 2 Losties, so I what was I supposed to do?
Alive On-Island Group 2 - Cindy. It's time we saw Cindy again. With Locke now the new leader of The Others I think we will be seeing more of her and the kids again soon.
Alive Off-Island Group 1 - Sayid. Yes, I realize the likelihood of him killing someone and/or getting injured is quite high, BUT he's also one of my Top 2 Losties, so what was I supposed to do?
Alive Off-Island Group 2 - Widmore. I definitely think we'll be seeing more of him next season as we figure out what Sun's up do...and since I'm pretty sure he "can't" die...at least I won't lose those points?
Alive Off-Island Group 3 - Ji Yeon-Kwon. This was a really random group of people. Ji Yeon-Kwon seemed the only sensible choice. Plus, I will throw a temper tantrum is Michael comes back...
I See Dead People Group 1 - Charlie.
I See Dead People Group 2 - Mikhail. This guy just won't die...I'm sure he's been regenerating himself since we last saw him...or something. At least I hope he makes a return...
Status Unknown - Jin. I mean, how could I not have a little faith in the guy? I tend to lean towards the LOST-obsessed that thinks that he made it off the freighter before it went down. That dude's determined...he wouldn't have let a little thing like a room full of C-4 get him down ;-)
I'm sure like last season I have made some HUGE mistakes in my team choosing...but as the kid who was always chosen last for any team, I say my team rocks =)

Meet Kevin Johnson
Well, not much has changed with respect to my lack of interest in Michael Dawson/Kevin Johnson. He's just as annoying as ever...and now he CAN'T DIE?! What a sick trick to play on us! Ugh, this storyline kills me and I'm hoping the "answer" to LOST does not revolve around Mike.
I was ready to be shocked or surprised by this episode, but was left wanting. I had basically assumed Mike would screw it up as a dad again, I mean really, we never saw him take a turn for the better on-Island, so what made us think he's turn into Super Dad off-Island? Okay, so it was new that he couldn't die, but for those of us who believe the show is somehow about fate (at least on some level) and whether or not we can change our fate...it's no big surprise...obviously it's not Mike's time to go, he has unfinished business and just because the plane crash created the need for some "course correction" in Mike's timeline, doesn't mean he can change the future. He still sucks as a dad, and his quest to end it all and leave his kid behind, only makes him suck more...I must say though, Harold Perrineau is a genius and it takes something special to come on screen and people instantly hate you for the character you are portraying...not for your lake of acting ability, but rather your superior gift at becoming a character. This man is gifted, but that doesn't make me like his character at all...which perhaps is the point...I'm not sure we are supposed to trust Michael...and H.P. gets that across brilliantly.
We still don't know how Michael and Walt end up back in America...obviously with no ID...and new names...or did Ben provide them with the necessary paperwork before they left? Ben's such a nice guy... =P
I thought Michael had returned the watch to Jin...guess not. Jerk.
Why did Mr. Friendly kiss that dude? Was that important, really? I'm hoping it was, otherwise, that was just some unnecessary guy-love and a whole lot of fruit in Mr. Friendly's penthouse suite. Knowing LOST, that guy, Arturo, will be back at some point... Back to Mr. Friendly...his presence starts the whole "timeline of events" for this episode rolling...obviously we are somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2004 in here...Libby is dead, yet appears to Mike a few times (a product of Smokie following Mike around making sure he doesn't die/guarding him supernaturally, perhaps...perhaps not) and Friendly is now dead on-Island after being ambushed by Hurley and the gang on the beach. I'll let some fans, more obsessed than I, deal with this timeline...
Widmore is obsessed and has lots of money...nothing new learned here. Someone finally admitted that the plane wreck was a fake and the bodies were stolen from Thailand. Right on...yet I'm not convinced just yet...how can we be sure it was Widmore and not Ben? All we know is that a shell company bought the plane, etc. I think there's still a strong possibility that Ben's playing Mike...again. Especially considering on some screen shots I've seen for the airplane PO, yeah, the buyer is "Widmore Industries" not very "shell" if you ask me...
Sayid always rocks. 'Nuf-said. (Granted he may have spoiled the "surprise" that the captain of the freighter already knew Michael was a spy, but whatever...the more things out in the open, the more we get to see whether Widmore or Ben is the real "bad" guy.) I also like that they continue to show him for the "warrior" he is...he doesn't even take his shoes off to sleep...he's ready at the drop of a hat! Why didn't the Losties want to trust him to be their leader? Prejudice perhaps? Would things have turned out differently if they did? I think someday Sayid's feelings toward Ben will change...or something will change...I'm really excited to see how his post-Island life gets going...I'm definitely holding out for another Sayid flash-forward!
Most thought-provoking sub-plot of the night for me was the Alex, Danielle, Karl trek to The Temple. Who was killing them off? In my mind, it was some of the Others coming from The Temple to meet the small party and make sure Alex, and only Alex, made it to their camp. Danielle's "story" was resolved at this point, so I was surprised for her to be taken down by someone other than Smokie...she had found her long-lost daughter...it was over...I knew she was on the chopping block...people around here tend to die off once their story is complete. I doubt Ben would be running through the jungle himself, but I wouldn't put it past him to send his other "friends"...maybe this means a return of Richard Alpert! That would be awesome. I will cling to that thought until April 24th at 10pm.
It's going to be a long month until Episode 4.09 airs...

Ji Yeon
- Why is there a quiet end of ship and what was up with that blood stain that "shouldn't still be there"? Looks like someone got shot...and was probably thrown overboard. Do we think the freighter folks know they have a spy in their midst? Did Michael/Kevin do the shooting? Is the Captain *really* the captain?
- So, when Ben says he's "one of the good guys" do we think he's right, not just in his own mind, but in the grand scheme of Widmore vs Island Ben is playing protector to the Island while Widmore is trying to take control over the Island? In the end will we be overcome with gratitude for Ben? That would make re-watching this series quite interesting. You'd watch it with a whole different mindset...now that's a way to sell some DVDs!
- Juliet's a jerk. That goes against some Woman Code doesn't it? Using a woman's secrets against her, a woman you are attempting to claim as a "friend"? If she wanted to maintain Sun's trust, she blew it...doesn't she realize that most women hold grudges? Duh!
- Regina was really messed up. Now there is no one left for Daniel to get to help with his experiments...are there any "scientists" left on the freighter, or did they just dump off Charlotte and Daniel and never intend to retrieve them from the Island? What is Miles up too? Still gnawing on that grenade?
- This whole two plane thing is weird...and difficult to understand. At first I thought, oh yeah, Ben planted the other plane and used the bodies from the purge to fill it...but we saw where the purge bodies were (Locke fell into the mass grave). Plus, in this day and age, those bodies would have easily been determined to be fakes by dental records, DNA, fingerprinting, etc...silly Rach. Again this leads me back to the multiple universe/timeline theory...what if when Desmond didn't push the button causing Oceanic 815 to crash it was flying over the "special Island airspace" and suddenly the planes were cloned? A course correction of sorts occurred...in the real world that plane should be down, with no survivors. Granted this doesn't help the whole "wrong pilot with no wedding ring" that Frank noticed on the news footage of the 815 dive, nor does it help clarify how they are going to explain the Oceanic 6 and where they have been and why their bodies were initially counted with the rest of the passengers at the bottom of the ocean...I freaking love this show!
- How much do we think Ben really knows about the Island? Does Ben know about time difference? Does Ben use those time differences to his advantage? My guess is lots, yes, and obviously.
- Oceanic 6 is now solidified. I'm pleased.
- Why Hurley? Would he really travel that far to see Sun and the baby? You'd think Hurley of all the Oceanic 6 would now have an aversion to flying...did something happen to make Hurley and Sun buds?
- Last, but not least, so far we have seen four flash-forwards...this is my attempt to put them in chronological order: Sun has baby & sane Hurley visits, Kate's trial and Aaron reveal, Hurley sees Charlie at nut-house, Jack's infamous season 3 bearded finale. The Kate episode could have happened before Sun having the baby depending on any Island/World time differences which could cause Aaron to age more rapidly than a normal child (particularly important if you're in the grown-up Walt was really Walt crowd).
That's all for now...unless I think of something else to add later!

The Other Woman
In the flashback Ben talks about the kids being "on the list". This is not the first time we've seen or heard of lists in LOST. Who made the list the kids were on? Is Jacob making lists? Ben? Mikail after his creation of the background files? Were the lists created before or after the crash? One can assume the list that brought Hurley, Sawyer, Kate, and Jack to Ben & Co. was created post-crash with the intent of capturing the two "criminals" and a doctor...with Hurley thrown in for sympathy and/or confusion for those left behind at the beach (Boy Who Cries Wolf element perhaps?) What list was Ben talking about? He made Ethan and Goodwin make lists of the survivors? Were the kids on those lists?
Who did Juliet look "just like"? I know some are thinking Ben's mom and some are thinking Annie. I think it's safe to say it is the women in the painting at Ben's house (which we were conveniently shown when Locke sat on the couch to watch the video of Widmore). My guess is that it was Annie...there's more to that story I'm sure...where did she go, why'd she go, is she still around?
The Whispers made a return tonight as well...those things freak me out.
I didn't care too much for this episode in general...so my observations are minimal.
I still don't trust Charlotte, Dan, or Juliet for that matter...I'm anxious tonight's episode though considering the Oceanic Six will be solidified and I'm guessing we'll find out who Ben's "man on the boat" is (my money is still on Michael, although I've heard a convincing argument that it's really Ben....cue Twilight-Zone music now....)
The Constant
Daniel Faraday is quite a character. I loved that he's character is developing so much...he usually makes Charlotte look like a jerk, and perhaps that's on purpose, but I just can't see Faraday conning the gang. Eloise was a good rat, now a dead rat. Kinda sucks that Daniel chose Desmond to be his "constant" and now Desmond is somewhere in the Pacific on a strange freighter with next to no means of communication.
Sayid just rocks. Who do you think sabotaged the communications room? Ben's "man"? Are we still thinking Ben's man is on the boat? If so, is it Michael? We obviously know he's got the stones to pull it off. I liked the sly remark about "you must have a friend on this ship" when the sick-bay door "mysteriously" opened. Friend of whom though...is Michael (or whoever Ben's mole is) going to be the one to bring Sayid over to the dark side? If so then it better not be Michael because I don't think Sayid would fall for that...at least I hope not.
Desmond. Oh Desmond. Sucks to be stuck in time doesn't it brotha? We learned several important things though this episode. Why did Penny not search for Desmond the first 3 years (she mentioned in their 2004 phone call that she had been looking for him for 5 years...what happened from 1996-1999?) Sadly, I forget the timing of Desmond's sailing trip...could she have started her search when he went "missing"? Must do more research...
Random Question: Why is the love story of Desmond and Penny SO MUCH BETTER than Jack and Kate or Sawyer and Kate? Why do we actually "care" that they find each other again? Is it because the other three have never done anything to "deserve" this kind of love? Kate runs, Sawyer cons, and Jack had it and let it slip away...

Eggtown
Locke - If those were the last two eggs, why kill the chicken? Are there more chickens? If so, then won't there be more eggs? Are we to assume there will be no more food drops? That'll suck. I liked the crappy prop wall that the eggs got thrown up against...that was classic.
Kate - How'd she get Aaron? Is that really Aaron? Is she really "not" pregnant? Does Aaron "count" as one of the Oceanic Six? Who were the two other survivors of the crash that didn't make it back to the real world?
Kate/Jack - What happens in between this trial and the Season 3 finale when Jack has to meet Kate in secret? Was there a fight? Are they being watched? Is future-Ben still manipulated their lives belong just the cover-up story? Did Ben contrive the cover-up story?
Ben - Was $3.2 million a code to Miles if Miles was Ben's "man on the boat"? Does Dharma think the Island is still functioning properly and therefore they keep sending food? Is Ben dooping all of the true Others and conducting Dharma experiments right before their eyes with out them knowing what's going on? How is Ben so freaking cool?
Jack - Why does his hair get progressively more grey, yet in the Season 3 finale we see him with that awful BLACK beard? That still bothers me...to no end. Obviously they are showing this inconsistency for a purpose (*cough* wormhole *cough*)
Faraday - Memory loss my friend? I believe Faraday has some memory loss issues...a conclusion based also on the crying episode from when we first met Daniel. I believe he cries for a purpose, yet cannot remember why it "should" matter. BUT with his mad brain for science, he obviously can remember some things...is it only "personal" events he has trouble memorizing? Are these Memory games with Charlotte supposed to help? Really? Come on now...
Claire - Is not going to make it to the mainland. I'm pretty sure she'll get off the Island, but not so sure that she'll make it the whole way.

The Economist
Kate/Sawyer
Thank you Sawyer for finally saying what the rest of us were thinking. Why teh crap does Kate want off the Island where she is considered a vital member of the community, a leader...only to return home where she is a fugitive? Or does Kate have outside insight into the future...perhaps because, like the Barenaked Ladies song, "It's all be done before..."
Charlotte/Miles
Why were the Fantastic Four guys so interested in getting Charlotte back when they should have known that she would want to stay on the Island? Do you think anyone will go after Miles? Obviously the pilot won't (even if he didn't leave on the helicopter with Desmond, Sayid, and Naomi). My favorite theory behind this goes to the multiple "missions" of the F4. Miles obviously has a different mission that Daniel and/or Charlotte.
Daniel
I loved when he totally geeked out. He makes me giggle. Which bring me to my next topic...
Relativity
One thing was pretty much shot down by theorist this week, and that's the time difference from World to Island. Twice references to time and the difference between "Island" and actual time showed that no huge difference exists. Which still means multiple timeline theory is on, but the Island-time moving at a significantly slower pace than everyone else is now muddled. Then again...we have no idea where the freighter is and whether or not it is in Island water/territory...are those 31 minutes cumulative? Did the time differential begin the moment of the crash? The moment the hatch blew up and made the sky turn purple? Has the Island been "catching up" with real time ever since that event? Okay, so maybe not too much can be taken away from this 31 minute time difference...at least not yet.
Science vs. Faith
One thing about Sayid, he definitely is a Science and Faith kind of guy...perhaps much like the Others and Ben? We are constantly reminded of his technical expertise, but Sayid is also one of two openly "religious" characters on the Island (the other being Rose...if you take "religious" to mean "recognized world religion" vs. the post-modern "spiritual, but not religious" mentality a la Mr. Locke.) What's interesting is that Sayid's faith and his scientific background seem unrelated. It's not like his Faith is in Science, but rather he is one character which embodies both. Is this cause for the trials Sayid is out through? Can the two coexist without causing some sort of destruction? On LOST we have not yet seen anyone who embodies the ideals of both Science and Faith succeed... Intriguing. Are the two really so incompatible?
